GEAR OILS
Today’s farming and construction equipment uses more advanced technology than ever — but it’s no help if you skip routine maintenance for simple things like gears and bearings. Protect your investment and prevent costly repairs and downtime with gear oils from CNH Industrial.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind?
Gears are critical to the proper functioning of your equipment. Tucked away in transmissions, differentials, axles and other components, they transmit power from one part of a machine to another. On a tractor, they help the engine drive everything from the wheels to attachments, such as mowers, tillers and snowblowers. You can’t do much without them.
That’s why proper lubrication is so important. Poor lubrication from dirty or insufficient gear oil results in greater friction between the gears, bearings and other moving parts, which can cause excess noise and vibration. Not only will the machine fail to run at optimum power and efficiency, the affected parts will suffer high wear, decreasing their service life and in time causing permanent, even catastrophic damage.
What to Look For
The good news is that choosing gear oils doesn’t need to be complicated. Compared with engine and hydraulic oils, gear oils don't come in as many types, so there are often fewer variables to consider. Besides, your OEM equipment manual should give a general overview of what you need and when you need it.
Gear oils differ in three main ways: By their base oil (mineral or synthetic), by their viscosity (basically, their thickness), and by their additives (for corrosion resistance and other benefits). When thinking through the advantages and disadvantages of your options, it may help to consult with a dealer.
Introducing MAT Specifications
To ensure that all CNH Industrial OEM-spec lubricants exceed American Petroleum Institute (API) requirements and have tighter tolerances than industry-standard specs, our engineers developed the Material Specification standard (MAT Specifications or MAT for short). A MAT designation certifies that a lubricant is engineered to protect the advanced technology in your equipment. No other maintenance solution can make that claim.
